Sandhill has a current population of 6 adult members and 1
child. We do not consider this our final size and are open to
others joining us. Bedroom spaces are available.
Folks interested in membership are encouraged to visit when all
members are home, and we don't generally extend membership-exploration
visits during our sorghum harvest
(September 15 - October 30th).
It can often take several visits in
order to ascertain if there is a good match. The typical path to
become a member begins with a week-long visit. At the beginning of the
visit, the visitor meets with members to talk about what co hopes to
get out of the visit and any questions or concerns about visiting or
exploring membership at Sandhill. Information about Sandhill
membership and the transition into it is available to the visitor
through casual one- to one conversations with members and/or in group
meetings. An opportunity is provided to have a follow up meeting
close to the end of the week to discuss how the visit is going and
next steps. Members decide by consensus about extending visits longer
than a week. Sometimes we ask a person to visit other communities to
gain more perspective, sometimes we ask a person to visit again;
occasionally we're ready to have the person begin a six- month provisional membership right
away.
