Visitors considering membership

Sandhill has a current population of seven adult members and one child. We enjoy meeting people who appreciate the rural and alternative lifestyle, who wish to live and interact with children, and who connect well with the land and its seasons. We are open to exploring membership with folks attracted to our visiton and reality-- though those conversations might not bloom into membership sooner than next year or beyond. We like to take our time in getting to know people.

Our visiting "season" usually overlaps with our gardening season: April- September. We like to take a break from visitors during the winter months.

It can often take several visits in order to ascertain if there is a good match. The typical path to become a member begins with a week-long visit. At the beginning of the visit, the visitor meets with members to talk about what he/she hopes to get out of the visit and any questions or concerns about visiting or exploring membership at Sandhill. Information about Sandhill membership and the transition into it is available to the visitor through casual one- to one conversations with members and/or in group meetings.

We try to provide an opportunity at the end of the week to discuss how the visit went and next steps. Sometimes we ask a person to visit other communities to gain more perspective; sometimes we ask a person to visit again; occasionally we decide to extend the current visit.

Eventually, if things feel right, we will invite someone to start a provisional membership.

Please write us to schedule a visit.
