We host visitors, whether they are seriously considering membership or just
curious. To request a visit with Sandhill, please send us a letter of introduction. Please include in this letter:
- your name, age and gender
- the work or studies in which you are currently involved
- your general work history
- your hobbies and interests
- how you heard about Sandhill
- why you are interested in visiting community, and why Sandhill in particular
- approximately when you'd like to visit
- any physical ailments or limitations (e.g. back problems) which would prevent you from doing certain kinds of work
- any special skills you have, or work you like or dislike
- if you have any children, and their ages, even if you are not planning on visiting with them.
- emergency contact information: the full name, postal address, email address(es) and most importantly 24-hour phone number(s) of a relative or friend whom we could contact in case of an emergency during your visit (if you're from outside of North America, please include a US or Canadian contact as well, if you can.)
This letter will give us information, as well as allow us to get a sense of you before we invite you to visit. Send the letter via e-mail (visitors@sandhillfarm.org)
or the postal mail. On the basis of this correspondence, we might extend an
offer to visit for up to a week (If you are looking for an extended visit,
please check out our internship
program). We are experimenting with fixed visiting
periods, so our visitor correspondent will work with you to find dates that will work on both sides.
While there is no visiting fee, donations are
appreciated. It is expected that visitors will help out with work
around the farm. To find out more about being a visitor at Sandhill
see our visitor orientation.
